Your child’s special day is approaching; it’s time to write the invitations. In this article, we’ve listed plenty of birthday invitation wordings that you can use to kick-start your creativity. We’ve also listed some practical tips and advice about kids’ invitations in general. Let’s dive in.
Information to include
The invitations should be fun, set the tone of the event and convey the key pieces of information. For a kid’s party, here’s what we think should always be included:
- Your child’s name
- Your child’s age
- Start & end time of the party
- The place of the party
- The birthday party theme
- Your RSVP details
- The RSVP deadline
- Any special clothing or equipment needed
- Dietary requirements or allergies
- Parking or travel information if the venue is tricky to find

Invitation wording ideas
When wording your invitations, decide whether you want to write in the first person or third person (for example, “Luke is celebrating his birthday”). You’ll also want to decide whether you’d like the text to be themed or generic, and whether to include the practical information within the wording itself or separately. Below you’ll find suggestions for some of the most popular themes.

Invitation Practicalities

Sending the invites
Try to send out the invitations 3 to 4 weeks ahead of time. This is the sweet spot. Any earlier and they’ll forget, any later and they might already be busy. When you send the invites, include a message to the parents on WhatsApp or Facebook. It will make it a lot easier for you to track who is attending and who isn’t.
Digital Invites
If you’d rather skip the printing altogether, digital invitations are a brilliant option. They’re quick to send, easy to track and much kinder on the environment. A few great options include:
- Canva – design your own and send as a PDF or image
- Evite – free templates and built-in RSVP tracking
- Paperless Post – beautiful designs with digital delivery
- A simple WhatsApp message with a designed image works just as well for casual gatherings!
RSVPs
Collect RSVPs digitally where you can. It will make your life a lot easier. For small groups, you might consider collecting regrets only rather than full RSVPs, and there are plenty of free RSVP systems out there if you want to keep things organised.
Templates
After you’ve figured out the wording, you’ll want to think about the design. If you’re up for a bit of creativity, Canva has templates for every theme and they’re free to use.
Pro-tip: If you want to get them printed, keep the format as simple as possible. It will make your life a lot easier when looking for a print shop.
Whether you go for a classic printed invite or a quick digital send, the most important thing is that your little one’s guests know they’re in for a great time. We hope this list of kids’ birthday party invitation wording ideas has given you plenty of inspiration!
