In this article, we’ll explore a whole host of ideas that are sure to inspire endless fun and learning. From summer sports to interactive art projects, the possibilities are endless.
Perhaps you’re a professional children’s entertainer who’s looking to boost their income? If so, offering interactive workshops, where children aren’t just entertained but get the chance to try something new for themselves, could be a lucrative sideline; it’s not just parents who book workshops, but also organisations like schools, Scout and Guide groups, local businesses and community event organisers.
And, if you’re passionate about arts and crafts, sports or something else, you could always run a children’s workshop yourself!
Kids love getting involved, so why not consider holding a workshop instead of a traditional birthday party? Whether you DIY it, or book a professional to run it for you, it’s sure to go down well.
Read on to discover some fantastic ideas for fun and engaging children’s workshops.
Theatre workshop fun
If your child is a natural performer, a theatre workshop could be the ideal platform for their talents, giving them the opportunity to experience the thrill of acting, singing and dancing. Participating in improv games, storytelling and dressing up will not only enhance your child’s confidence and stage presence, it will also help to foster teamwork and communication skills – and all while they’re having fun!
Science workshop ideas for children
If you’ve ever added Mentos to fizzy pop and caused a soda explosion, you’ll understand just how much fun a science workshop can be. Kids will be beside themselves with glee as they create bubbling potions, learn about lasers and light, or experiment with erupting eggs. There are so many options to choose from, it’s impossible to list them all! And the really great thing about a science workshop is that it can be tailored to suit all ages, from tots to teens.
However, unless you happen to be a scientist, it’s probably best to hire a professional to run this type of science workshop, especially as you’ll probably need protective equipment like goggles.
Slime making workshop
Ok, this one probably comes under the science umbrella, but it’s definitely something you can safely do yourself at home. We’ve even included a simple recipe:
4oz (118ml) bottle of PVA glue
4 tsps powdered laundry starch (sold by Amazon UK)
2 tbsp warm water
Food colouring/s of your choice
- Pour the glue into a container and stir in the food colouring.
2. Mix starch with warm water and stir into the coloured glue.
3. Slime will begin to form.
Quantities are approximate and you can (and should!) experiment with more starch and glue to create different consistencies of slime. You could also add glitter to the PVA glue or try mixing it with glow-in-the-dark or poster paints.

Hula Hooping Workshop
A hula hoop workshop (no crisps involved!) is a great way to exercise and have fun at the same time. If you hire an expert, they’ll be able to teach children basic and more advanced hula hooping techniques, making this a suitable workshop for all abilities. A hula hooping workshop is not only fun, it also helps children to develop coordination, balance and strength. Just add some music and watch the kids move!

Baking Workshop
Children love to bake, and this is a workshop that can be tailored to all ages and abilities. Younger children could start by decorating pre-baked cupcakes, while older kids will enjoy baking them with adult supervision. It doesn’t have to involve cake either; if you’re organising this yourself, why not try breadmaking with quick-action yeast? Or how about making pizzas?
Baking workshops are even more fun during holiday periods, such as Christmas, as bakes can be themed to the occasion. Some of the skills children will acquire while having fun include measuring, weighing and the science behind ingredients like yeast and baking powder.

Puppet workshop
A puppet workshop can cover multiple skills, from learning how to make puppets move to making puppets, or even a puppet theatre, from various materials. And there’s more to this type of workshop than meets the eye; learning how to create a story and dialogue for their newly created puppets helps kids develop critical thinking skills and boosts their creativity.
Pottery workshop
Kids of all ages love playing with various modelling materials such as playdough and plasticine, so a pottery workshop is bound to appeal. There’s no need for a potter’s wheel or kiln; use air-drying clay which kids can take home and paint later, and simply allow them to mould it as they wish using various tools and their hands. This helps younger children to develop their fine motor skills and boosts the self-esteem of all participants as they proudly display their creations.

Magic workshop
Watching a magician perform tricks is fabulous, but just imagine how much more amazing it is for kids to learn how to perform their own magic tricks! A professional children’s magician will be able to demonstrate a few tricks before teaching the children how to do a simple trick or two of their own, as well as showing them how to present to an audience.
At PartyWizz, we love a bit of magic, and have a whole host of magicians available for hire!
Craft workshop ideas for every occasion
A craft workshop can take numerous forms and cater for all ages. Why not decide on a theme, such as cakes, castles or animals for example, and then provide kids with paint, glue, pompoms and other crafty bits? Do your bit for recycling by providing used cardboard boxes to make the base item and then challenge kids to make their own unique 3D artwork.
