The holiday season is a truly magical time for children. But while Santa\u2019s visit is eagerly anticipated, it\u2019s not all<\/em> about the presents.  In fact, much of the fun and excitement happens in the run up to Christmas; festively decorated classrooms, seasonal craft activities, a visit to the pantomime, or a Christmas baking session all contribute to creating happy memories.  So, what better way to celebrate than by throwing a fabulous kids\u2019 Christmas party that includes most of these elements?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Festive Date and Venue<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The \ufb01rst step towards organising a Kids Christmas Party is choosing a suitable date and venue. Ideally, select a weekend during December as weekdays could clash with school activities or family commitments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hosting the party in your own home is a great option as you\u2019ll already have a Christmas tree, and other decorations, set up. However, there are a couple of things you\u2019ll want to consider: Have you got sufficient room for the activities you plan to do? How fussy are you about mess? Do you have pets, and is there room for them elsewhere in the house? Kids and animals don\u2019t always mix \u2013 kids may have pet phobias or allergies to pets, while pets may be kid-phobic or allergic to children!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Limited on space?  Hiring a community centre or similar building is a better option.  Most have ample space and facilities for a large number of guests (or a smaller number of very excited children!). Speaking from experience, I can confirm that the latter take up at least twice as much space as their bored adult counterparts!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kids’ Christmas Party Invitations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Physical invitations or digital? Both can be easily designed in Canva, or you could let your kids loose with glitter glue and felt pens.  However, as parents tend to be super-busy at this time of year, a physical invitation is, perhaps, less likely to be forgotten, plus your kids will enjoy making them.Tip: <\/strong>Request the RSVP by a set date!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christmas Party Decorations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re hosting at home you\u2019re probably already sorted.  If, however, you\u2019ve hired a community centre or similar, you may need to take decorations with you. In this instance, balloons or paper streamers are a good option; don\u2019t forget to take Blu-tac, string, pins, or sticky tape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kids’ Christmas Party Games<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Stick the nose on Rudolph<\/strong> – requires a large, printed reindeer face, red paper noses (print red circles with child\u2019s name and add double-sided tape) plus a blindfold.  The child who sticks their reindeer nose closest to the right position wins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Snowball toss <\/strong>– requires large white pom poms, scrunched up paper, or something similar, and festively decorated container\/s. Kids can be split into teams or play individually to see who gets the most \u2018snowballs\u2019 in the bucket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Loo Roll Snowmen <\/strong>– requires white toilet rolls, hats and scarves, paper carrot noses and black paper buttons, plus double-sided tape.  Each team selects one person to be the snowman, a timer is set, and the selected child is wrapped in toilet roll before accessories are added.  The team with the best snowman, who must be wearing all the accessories, wins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pass the Advent parcel – <\/strong>requires a pocket advent calendar plus a multi-layered parcel with a small gift in the final layer. Play in the usual way but add numbers on slips of paper between the layers rather than sweets.  Children keep their number and collect sweets or a small gift from the matching advent calendar pocket at the end of the game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christmas Craft Activities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Gingerbread decorating contest \u2013 <\/strong>requires pre-baked gingerbread men or houses (age dependent), sweets, icing, sprinkles etc. for decoration. Decide how much time you\u2019ll allocate for decorating. Towards the end, announce, Bake-off style, that there are only x <\/em>minutes left.  When time is up, display and judge the children\u2019s creations.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alternative idea<\/strong>
<\/strong>Decorate Christmas-themed plywood or MDF shapes \u2013 <\/strong>requires suitable shapes, felt pens, paint, glue, glitter, mini pom poms etc.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tip<\/strong>
Ask parents to supply an apron for their child
<\/strong>or<\/strong>
<\/strong>Give each child an apron as a party gift – buy plain aprons and personalise with fabric pens or iron on vinyl names from eBay\/Etsy \u2013 ditch the party bags if going down this route!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Snow globes \u2013 <\/strong>requires empty craft snow globes, oven drying clay, glitter, small rolling pins \/ clay tools and instructions for parents (snow globes will need to be assembled at home). Get children to create snowmen, Christmas trees, or other clay creations for their snow globe.  Send each child home with their clay creation, glitter, snow globe (or a small screw lidded jar) and instructions for parents \u2013 see below. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
