If you\u2019ve ever added Mentos to fizzy pop and caused a soda explosion, you\u2019ll understand just how much fun a science workshop can be.  Kids will be beside themselves with glee as they create bubbling potions, learn about lasers and light, or experiment with erupting eggs.  There are so many options to choose from, it\u2019s impossible to list them all!  And the really great thing about a science workshop is that it can be tailored to suit all ages, from tots to teens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, unless you happen to be a scientist, it\u2019s probably best to hire a professional to run this type of science workshop<\/a>, especially as you\u2019ll probably need protective equipment like goggles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slime making workshop<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ok, this one probably comes under the science umbrella, but it\u2019s definitely something you can safely do yourself at home. We\u2019ve even included a simple recipe:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4oz (118ml) bottle of PVA glue
4 tsps powdered laundry starch (sold by Amazon UK)
2 tbsp warm water
Food colouring\/s of your choice<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Pour the glue into a container and stir in the food colouring.
    2. Mix starch with warm water and stir into the coloured glue.
    3. Slime will begin to form.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Quantities are approximate and you can (and should!) experiment with more starch and glue to create different consistencies of slime.  You could also add glitter to the PVA glue or try mixing it with glow-in-the-dark or poster paints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Hula Hooping<\/strong> Workshop<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    A hula hoop workshop (no crisps involved!) is a great way to exercise and have fun at the same time.  If you hire an expert, they\u2019ll be able to teach children basic and more advanced hula hooping techniques, making this a suitable workshop for all abilities.  A hula hooping workshop is not only fun, it also helps children to develop coordination, balance and strength.  Just add some music and watch the kids move!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Baking Workshop<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Children love to bake, and this is a workshop that can be tailored to all ages and abilities.  Younger children could start by decorating pre-baked cupcakes, while older kids will enjoy baking them with adult supervision.  It doesn\u2019t have to involve cake either; if you\u2019re organising this yourself, why not try breadmaking with quick-action yeast?     A puppet workshop can cover multiple skills, from learning how to make puppets move to making puppets, or even a puppet theatre, from various materials.  And there\u2019s more to this type of workshop than meets the eye; learning how to create a story and dialogue for their newly created puppets helps kids develop critical thinking skills and boosts their creativity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
