The nature of these experiments and demonstrations depend on the age groups. For example, the kids might get to make slime or watch a volcanic foam eruption.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now that you know what you\u2019re getting into, let\u2019s start planning a science party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Determine the party space<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first thing to consider is where you\u2019ll be hosting the party. There are two broad options: at home or in a venue. In this article, we\u2019re going to be focusing on planning the party at home, but keep in mind that venues take care of everything for you from A to Z.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At home, you ideally, want to have at least two separate spaces:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>One for the food &amp; presents (if it&#8217;s part of a birthday party)<\/li><li>One for the science activities<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This means you can set up the table ahead of time and not have to worry about clearing things during the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A third space for \u201cfree play\u201d is ideal but not necessary. These spaces can be a combination of indoors and outdoors or just indoor spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: If you don\u2019t have space at home, you can also book a function room for the occasion. These are just empty rooms that cater to all occasions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Choose a date<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now that you know where, it\u2019s time to decide when.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re booking a venue or a function, give them a call to check for availability as this might be limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re hosting the party at home, pick the date that is most suitable and the closest to the actual birth date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pro-tip<\/strong>: At PartyWizz, we usually recommend to parents to not rule out Sundays. Saturdays are the obvious choice, but for that reason, they tend to be busier. If you\u2019re planning the party during a busy time of year, Sundays are likely to be a lot calmer. You\u2019re therefore much more likely to get the booking (and guests) you want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Make a guest list<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a birthday party, the ideal number of guests will depend on the kid&#8217;s age and individual preferences. Especially if you\u2019re hosting the party at home. Ideally, they should all fit around the craft\/science table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Plan the activities<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it comes to science activities, you can either do them yourself or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/partywizz.com\/search\/kids\/science-parties\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">book a science entertainer<\/a>&nbsp;for the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The benefit of booking an entertainer is that they\u2019ll have all the equipment and the technical know-how for running the event smoothly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A few common science projects to make are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Slime<\/li><li>Bouncy balls<\/li><li>Putty<\/li><li>Baking-soda volcanos<\/li><li>Coke &amp; Mentos explosion<\/li><li>[\u2026]<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: if you want to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/partywizz.com\/blog\/family\/how-to-make-slime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">make slime<\/a>, we\u2019ve actually written an article on the topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to science activities, you might also want to play a few traditional party games. You can find some fun ideas and variations in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/partywizz.com\/blog\/family\/games\/7-great-party-games\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">our article about party games.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Create a science-proof space<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019re most likely going to be mixing ingredients with kids to create a chemical reaction\u2026 expect some mess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The good news is that most of the science recipes for kids are fairly easy to clean as long as it\u2019s on a hard surface. Simply set up a table with either an easy to wash table cloth or a disposable one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re indoors, you\u2019re also going to want to make sure there are no carpets, rugs, cushions or other stain-prone items in the craft space.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lastly, set up clear party &amp; non-party spaces in your house and make sure all the young guests know which rooms are out-of-bounds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: If you\u2019ve chosen to hire an entertainer, they\u2019ll know how to contain the mess\/science. Otherwise, this advice should help contain it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For each guest, you\u2019ll need to plan:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A small receptacle or tray depending on your experiment<\/li><li>Stir sticks &amp; utensils&nbsp;<\/li><li>Aprons or &#8216;lab coats&#8217;<\/li><li>Safety goggles (most likely optional but fun)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Get some decorations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now it\u2019s time to decorate the house\/venue to match the theme of your event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At PartyWizz, we usually recommend to not go overboard. Let the science theme speak for itself with the experiments and the equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, focus on having a nice table and a couple of extra decorations (for example balloons) to make the meal as fun as the rest of the party.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pro-tip<\/strong>: If you can\u2019t find science-themed tableware in the shops, fall back on space\/spaceship theme for decorations. They\u2019ll blend in perfectly\u2026 and technically it\u2019s science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Plan the food<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two most common timings are to start the party early afternoon and have cake before the presents or to start the party (very) late morning and have lunch and cake. Ideally, you want to have them sent 3-4 weeks before the party. From experience, we feel that it\u2019s the sweet spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can either stick to digital invitations, which is the easiest option or send out physical invitations, which can feel more special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regardless of what option you choose, we recommend you stick to digital RSVP\u2019s. It will make your life a lot easier. For small groups, WhatsApp (or any other messaging tool) is fine. For larger groups (10+) you might want to use an online RSVP tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it comes to making the actual invitations, we recommend using&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canva.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Canva<\/a>. It\u2019s a free drag and drop tool for creating designs and they\u2019ve got a great selection of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canva.com\/invitations\/templates\/kids-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pre-made templates<\/a>&nbsp;you can use.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the wording of the invitation, we\u2019ve&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/partywizz.com\/blog\/family\/birthday-invitation-wording\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dedicated an entire article<\/a>&nbsp;on the topic with multiple examples you can copy and paste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Have a schedule<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not a business meeting (far from it) but having a schedule\/outline will help with your peace of mind on the day. You don\u2019t need anything exact. Here is an example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>11:00 \u2013 Welcome the guests<\/li><li>11:30 \u2013 Science activities<\/li><li>12:30 \u2013 Lunch<\/li><li>13:00 \u2013 Cake and presents<\/li><li>13:30 \u2013 Free play<\/li><li>14:30 \u2013 Parents arrive, and perhaps stay for a cup of coffee<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Depending on the duration of the activities, you\u2019ll want to adjust the schedule. You might also want to have the activities after lunch. It&#8217;s entirely up to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: We\u2019ve allowed 30 minutes for lunch and 30 minutes for the cake and the presents.
